Windows User Profile messed up after laptop shutdown

Dear forums,

Yesterday, my laptop shut down due to lack of power during Windows startup. This event messed up what appears to be my User Profile. Link to the administrative events: View image: user profile service

Symptoms:
- all my custom windows settings are gone
- the start menu is empty with no icons whatsoever
- the system default font has changed

I tried to follow these instructions by Brink: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/38838-user-profile-service-failed-sign-fix-windows-8-a.html

but the problem is, I dont see any .bak keys in the folders he mentioned. Plus, I don't get any errors like "User Profile Service failed the sign-in" per se, so I'm quite hesitant to apply this fix to my problem.

My configuration: Windows 8.1, 64Bit
Laptop: Asus G74sx

Perhaps you have some ideas ? I'm quite desperate by now

Regards,

Jan

The only option to restore available was from the day/time after the system messed up :( I remember uninstalling one program, that I think looked suspicious and it must have made a restore point at that time.
Any other ideas ?

I always log in with my Microsoft account I guess ;) It appears that the account is so messed up that I can't even log in on any other local accounts.

Are you able to create a new administrator account, and sign in to it?

If so, then you could switch your current account to a local account, then switch the new account to a Microsoft account with your email address.

I've already created several admin accounts, even enabled an elevated admin, but as I log out from my corrupted account, I have no other accounts available to log into. In other words, it automatically wants me to log into the Microsoft account with the email. And my Windows menu is stripped down to basic functions like power off or log in/out. I can't get to this account screen :(

What you are getting at is, I believe, an option that somewhere in "the cloud", there are settings of my User Profile that are just the way they were before the system malfunction? Please correct me if I'm wrong :)
