local access forgotten password; wrong hint

Hi! I logged my son's laptop (Asus with Windows 8.1) out of Microsoft online and created an offline (local access) account for myself with password (and set hint), as well as pin. I did not wrote down password, in a moment of weakness, but was sure the hint would jog my memory right. We have used the laptop with my pin for 2 weeks. All good. Until my son clicked on an update which failed...I'm guessing because it was offline....Next day I came to use it, the log on screen showed my local access credentials asking for a password (no option to switch to pin) but the hint was for my son's Microsoft Online account password. As you can imagine, I don't have a disk for resetting. I educated myself on multiple forums on getting to the Command Prompt to attempt password reset...but, another problem is that in no way I can get the Command Prompt screen. From advanced settings, when I click on command prompt, it takes me right back to the log on screen. I am completely stuck and would appreciate any help you can provide.
I mainly don't understand why the wrong hint for password is displayed! Thanks!

Hello,
You can create a reset disk anytime without third party software.

First open control panel,
Then search for "User Accounts",
Then click "Create a password reset disk" on the left pane.
Now follow instruction and insert USB or CD to create a reset disk.
