Hello all, My gf decided she wanted her admin account name changed on her Windows 8 machine from her first and last name. I edited her account name so that only her first name showed up. I used Netplwiz and everything seemed to go well. Upon rebooting the machine, somehow her guest account (which was turned off and not showing) was the only account accessible. Before this she only had her admin account which was just her first/last name and this was only the account accessible upon booting the machine. Now she cannot access her usual account. In the guest account, I was able to browse to the Users folder in Windows Explorer and see that her usual account titled her first name is still there. When trying to double click the folder, I am prompted for a password, but there is no box to type the password. When looking at the properties of her C drive about 150 GBs are showing as used so I am guessing all her data is still there. Can someone please help a guy out? V Day is this weekend and I would really like to survive it as she is already made at me for basically locking her out of her computer. Thank you in advance!

You'll have to activate the built-in administrator account, and use that account to reverse-engineer the accidental lockout. Regular eightforum techs will appear shortly and give you the needed info.

Thank you all. I wanted to try and back up her computer before I did this. She has no current backup and I want to back it up for her since this guide goes into the registry. Is there a way to back up her files from the guest account? I have tried but it keeps saying I need administrative privileges.

I was able to boot into safe mode and change the account to administrator in netplwiz. Rebooted and was able access account as before. Thank you all.
