I changed my administrator user to standard user and now I can update any programs on my computer. when a user control window pops up its states to continue type an administrator password and click yes, the yes button is greyed out and does not allow me to enter a password.

If you are the only user then you cannot change your user from a administrative user to a standard user, windows woudn't allow you.

But tell me, if you open your start meny, either windows logo button lower left corner or hit the windows button on your keyboard and in the start menu you type cmd, it should then give you command prompt as an alternative for what it finds on your computer, right click it and select Run as Administrator. What happens when you do that?
