security code text email

When I try to sign on to my Windows 8.1 Microsoft user account, I am asked my user name and email address, which I supply, then I am supposed to get a email with a text code on it, however I am not getting the emails. I was signed on to it and signed out to return to a local account. Thanks

Hi there. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish with the text code. I'm assuming you can retrieve emails in the local account?

I too had that problem with windows mail, even though I have had my Win Mail account for a long time, in the end I binned it and now just use gmail.

For some reason, my regular email address would not work, so I set up an alternate, which did work, however this could have been problematic as I only have one email address, I feel this was a poor solution to the problem. I normally do not use web mail. Thanks

You can give your cell phone number if you prefer and they send the code there.

Thank you for that suggestion, but any cell phone service is unreliable at my home.
