Hello!

I'm setting up w8.1 for the first time. I find that user accounts are not as easy as W7. Iset the first user account to the user name my son uses for email he wanted it changed to his name so I changed it. Now when he logs on it is to his name, however, the email user name still appears in the upper right side of the page. So I went to C:\users and found that the only user folder present was the one with his email user name. It seem that only the log in page has his name and that is only an alias for the true account, his email user name.
What I was thinking is to create another account with his name with admin privileges and then delete the account with his email user name. Then there would be only one account.

If I had not done other setup tasks. I would go back, again, to factory settings and start over.

What I eventually want is only one user account with his name and password with automatic log on.

Bill

Hey Bill,

It sounds like you may have set him up with a Microsoft account on the computer.

For now, use the tutorial below to get detailed information to see what user accounts are on the computer, and post the details here.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...-view-detailed-information-about-windows.html

You can use the tutorial below to set Windows to automatically sign in to a user account of your choice at startup. :)

Yep, you only have the one account, and it would be a Microsoft account since it's showing an email address with it.

If you like, you could still use the second tutorial I posted above to set Windows to automatically sign in to your account at startup.

What I would liked to do is leave the MS account, except remove the name "Wil". Then add a local account called "Wil" and make that account logon automatically.

The result would be two accounts, one MS and the local one "Wil". Both admin accounts and the local,"Wil" , to be an automatic logon.

In that case, you should be able to use the tutorial below to change the display name of your Microsoft account.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/8782-user-account-name-change-windows-8-a.html

Afterwards, create a new local account "Wil".

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5536-user-account-add-new-user-windows-8-a.html

When finished, you can set Windows to automatically sign in to the new local account at startup. :)

Brink,

The siversurfersoars1 account is a LOCAL account with a name change to "wil".
I changed the name back to silversurfersoars1 and added another local account named 'wil" without a PW.
I changed the "wil" account type to admin.
I now have 2 accounts one is "silver......." with a PW and a second account "wil" WITHOUT PW. Both are admin. type.

I would like to delete account "silver....." and place it in MS with complete email and PW, of course.
The logon account I would like to be "wil".
Instead of a PW I'll use a picture. Have been using "Veriface" and it works well, so far.

Sorry, but I'm confused now. Please clarify the below.

I thought that you wanted to keep both accounts.

You said that the silversurfersoars1 account had an email address showing for it. If so, that would be a Microsoft account instead of a local account.

When I tried to log on to the MS account It returned " no account with that name or that the account doesn't exist". When I went to Control panel ....Users accounts the account was listed as local.
When I changed the name back to "silver......" the system would not allow the symbol "@" nor could I add the entire address. I read somewhere that 16 is the length of the user name for a local account.

I hope this removes the confusion. This is the first time I have encountered two accounts during setup. Things are beginning to be clearer lately as I work on this.

Brink,
Got what I wanted. One MS and one local. Logon with the local one. Marked as solved.
