Can't log in with Microsoft account, Internet won't work

I set my computer to boot in safe mode, but when it did it asked for my Microsoft account password. I couldn't remember it so I reset it. Now it won't log me in and I'm locked out of my account even though I know it's the right password. Plus the Internet doesn't seem to be working, but it says it's connected. Any ideas how on earth to fix this if I can't access anything beyond the log in screen?

Hello mgoldin, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you have another computer (ex: friends) that you can use with an internet connection, then you can use Option Two in the tutorial below to reset your Microsoft account password to regain access. It may take a bit to sync the new password though.

Thanks for responding! I tried doing that, but it just tells me my password is incorrect even though I'm 100 percent sure it's right.

That's ok. You can use step 5 in Option Two to still reset your password.

Yeah, I've done that multiple times and it still won't log me in with the reset password even though I know for sure what it is. Are there any other options?

Which option in step 5 did you use? Sometimes it may take up to 24 hours for the new password to fully sync when there's an issue.

Check your Microsoft account's activity to see if it may have been temporarily blocked.

I reset my password online since I can't log in to the computer. I've done it three times now with time in between and no luck. I didn't know you needed to wait though, will it still register the change without an Internet connection?

It will need to have an internet connection to be able to sync the new password. Otherwise it'll keep using the old password until it syncs.

Are you trying to sign in normally instead of through Safe Mode?

Safe Mode will not have an internet connection unless you boot into "Safe Mode with Network".

I set the computer to start in safe mode with networking because I was having a problem with my Internet connection to begin with. I did by doing what it says under "Getting to Safe Mode From Within Windows 8" on this page: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)

So now it's starting safe mode, but I normally log in with a four-number pin and now it wants my Microsoft account password. I couldn't remember it so I reset it, but since it wasn't connected to the Internet because that was the original problem now I'm stuck.
