I recently sold my Gateway laptop and the Windows 8 software was already installed with purchase. I want to remove my info and myself as the primary user in windows 8 so the new owner can set themselves up. I tried on my own to figure out and was only able to set up a separate "User" for the new owner until we can resolve.

Just make sure the new owner/login has administrative rights, have the new owner login and delete your old account. Are even better...most new laptops come with an option to restore to factory defaults. That's what I would do if it was an option.

Thanks, we did try to delete but the "delete" option was grayed out and not usable. I thought about using restore factory defaults but I was not given the windows 8 software cd so I was concerned I would lose all the apps that were installed. Is this problem?

Yes, you will lose the apps that are installed. If they were free apps the new user should be able to download them from the store as well.

If it was greyed out, then you need to create a local user account with admin rights, and not a email account. Then login with the local admin account and you should be able to delete the other accounts.

Again, a restore will set the laptop back to the factory defaults and will not leave any presence of yours behind for someone else to use. Now, if you are selling the laptop with the apps installed as a selling point, then you need to try the local user account option to delete the other user accounts.

Hope this helps.
