Solved How to reenable login screen

I removed the password login screen on my wife's W8 laptop, so the laptop boots up to the Desktop with no login requirement. She no longer has Administrator privileges. Control Panel/User Accounts show a password protected Administrator user and Local Account Password protected Administrator user.

I want to run Chkdsk since her HD has a read sector problem but need full Administrator privileges to do so.

How do I restore the password protected Administrator logins?

Hello Sinchi, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You have a few options to sign in to your administrator account:

• Use "Switch User"
• Temporarily bypass auto sign in at startup
• Turn off auto sign in at startup

Thanks a lot. I used the 3rd method you suggested using the Windows + R keys and using the associated screen shots. It worked out fine. I successfully ran Chkdsk, requiring elevated supervisor privilege, which repaired the 2 month old laptop hard disk sector read failure, which in turn prevented use of disk backuip software.

I will then use the same method to enable automatic login without entering name and password for my wife's use.
