Question about logging into windows 8.1 using MS account

Do I have to type password to log into windows each time that I'm using a 8.1 MS account?

Seems kind of annoying.

I used to rely on skydrive a LOT, but now it seems like:

1) You need to login via a MS account to use skydrive.

2) You need to type your password to your MS account each time you login to windows.

Can anyone specify?

If you like, you could use SkyDrive online while signed in to Windows 8.1 with a local account instead. However, you will still need to sign in with your Microsoft account online.

I tried this myself the other day, but along the way it said I had to convert my local account to my MS account which would still let me keep all my files/programs and I cancelled the process. It sounded like my local account was going to become my MS account by force if I had continued, is that not the case?

You don't need to convert your account from a local account to a Microsoft account to sign in to SkyDrive online and use it.

You would only need to sign in to Windows 8.1 with a Microsoft account if you want to have SkyDrive integrated in Windows 8.1.

Ah, that makes more sense now Brink. I was attempting to use the skydrive app hoping I could get it to run on a local account rather than accessing it through my browser.

I have to say, the fact that they have included all these tools like email app or calendar app which are useless unless you let them look over your shoulder with their silly MS account really is becoming frustrating.

Well, it's not that they are looking over you shoulder. It's just that all these free services are all tied to your single Microsoft account to be able to allow you to sync and use these services on any PC or device that you sign in to with your Microsoft account.

As usual, it's optional though.

I know, I know, it just is frustrating because the other day I wanted to add a birthday to the calendar so I wouldn't forget it and I can't even open it without first signing in with a MS account. I mean why force the issue, can't it be optional to let you use the parts of the OS if you never will buy a Windows phone and only have one computer?
