Solved Does Windows 8.1 Upgrade Force Use of a Password?

When I did a clean install of Windows 8, I simply left the password field blank. The computer is a single user and in Windows 8 mode it starts up automatically with no sign in or password required. Same when it wakes from a monitor shutdown. No sign in or password needed.

Will that remain the same when I upgrade to 8.1? Is there any way to force it to be that way?

Hello Ron,

Yes, as long as don't enter a password during the setup phase, it'll be the same afterwards. Even if not for some reason, you can always remove your password for a local account to be back where you were. :)
