Microsoft Account / Local Account

I updated to 8.1 yesterday and noticed that it went to a Microsoft Account. I switched it back to a Local Account. I installed a few apps to check out yesterday also. Tonight I went to install an app from the store but it would not let me unless I switched to a Microsoft Account.

What happened? Did I do something to cause this?

Thanks
Jim

If you set up a local account they want your ms info to allow you into the store, it will not change the local account. They set you up originally so all your computers link up to cloud info and their store but it is not required. Yet. :)

I can go into the store and look around with a local account but I can't install any apps unless I change my PC to a Microsoft Account.

I just tried it again. My PC is setup as a Local Account. I then go to the store and select an App to install. A box pops up asking me to switch my PC to a Microsoft Account and if I do that it sends a code to my Gmail accout that I have to enter so I can setup my Microsoft Account.

It was not doing this yesterday. I do not want my PC as a Microsoft Account. If I do then everyone that uses my PC will have my password to my email.

Hello JB,

Yep, you must be signed in to the Store with a Microsoft account to be able to install apps. If you sign in to Windows 8/8.1 with a Microsoft account, then you get signed in to the Store with the same account by default. When you sign in to Windows 8/8.1 with a local account, then you must manually sign in to the Store with a Microsoft account.

Basically any app (ex: SkyDrive) that uses a Microsoft service, will require that you are signed in to a Microsoft account to use it.

As far as everyone else that may user you PC, add a new user account for them to use instead.

Hope this helps, :)
