Solved microsoft account problems

Firstly, thanks to the forum, especially Brink for tutorial, and advice on moving from XP to Windows 8 Pro, it was invaluable help, in fact as I had six:eek: partitions on my drive I couldn't have done it without you.

Nearly everything went well, apart from a usb network adapter problem which I can hopefully fix, at first. This included setting up email in the mail app and creating my first microsoft account. But after a couple of hours both email and later the account failed. Don't know if its coincidence but I tried to set up email in an outlook account but that seemed to delete mail app account and did not work. I then deleted the outlook account which seems to have corrupted my microsoft account or are they the same?

I tried to create another MS account with different email address today but that didn't work either. So I have no email via mail app but that's not a problem as have gone with third party software but still no MS account, although it still recognises my original email address/user name. I've tried new password, reset etc, gone through all tutorials still no go, and of course I cannot contact MS on line as I don't have a working account which seems to be necessary. I've tried but even the 'can't access your account?' doesn't work entering the letters/numbers.

I managed to get a MS tech on the phone eventually and tried explaining the problem but either the line to India went dead or she put the phone down.:(

Not sure if I really need an account and having looked at the app store think I can manage without and may go with classic shell, but I don't like problems beating me. So if anybody can see what I'm doing wrong or think of a solution I would be grateful.

Hello Bodger, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Just to double check, did you already sign up for and create a Microsoft online with a valid email address first?
Afterwards, either add the Microsoft account in Windows 8,...

or switch your current local account in Windows 8 to be a Microsoft account with this new account?

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

Hi Brink. Well when I clean installed win 8 I started with a local account and later created a MS account but I used a non MS email address which seemed to work as I had to verify email but it was created in the software on the computer and verified on line. I've tried switching from local to MS account but that was probably after it was no longer working.

I've just tried to log in on line with second account which this time took me to password reset, email etc, which I tried but it once again did not work, coming up with 'you tried to enter your password to many times.'

I've just tried step two and for some unknown reason it let me log in with my second account, new password. I'm in account summary and everything looks alright except for the message email not verified. This is where it went wrong last time, presume I have to verify it now?

You should be good to go then, and verify later if you like to give it time to sync everywhere.

Thanks very much Shawn, I've verified which this time worked, logged out and then back in so, touch wood, for whatever reasons it's worked and I now have a MS account:D, cheers
