Redirect my User Profile

Evening all,

Currently my own desktop is running Windows 7 but I am wanting to install Windows 8 and get used to it. I have tried it previously but struggled.

Anyway Im going to take the plunge now but im worried that I can't redirect my user profile. I have a 120gb SSD drive that I ONLY install the OS on to. I then have a G: which houses my user profile and all my settings etc. This is quite large too.

I have looked around the forums and it appears that this isn't just a quick in the registry like it was in Windows 7. Is the only way to do this by booting in to "Audit" mode or is there a quick registry change I can do like Windows 7. This is the only thing that is stopping me from upgrading.

Regards,

Hi NEOBAHAMUT and welcome to Windows 8 Forums.

Sure you can, and it is exactly the same method for Vista and W7 too. I use it myself to relocate my user profiles onto my U: drive. Attached is a reg file, which is a modified version of the file I use (the only difference being is that I have renamed the drive to G: instead of U: to reflect what you have).

Would you be able to give me a guide on how to do this? I changed the "ProfileList" registry setting and then when I tried logging back in it kept automatically signing me out and the only way back in to windows for myself was to reinstall windows...

Can't believe how difficult this is....
