So I've recently reinstalled windows 8 and it seems I have no permission to do anything like create/delete folders and rename. Anyone know why that is and could help me? thanks in advance

Yup, I already was/am admin and its still telling me I need permission.

"You require permission from 'name' to make changes to this folder"
Thing is I only have one account on here

So, if you only have one account, why is it asking for permission from 'name' which I assume is an alias for the real name of a different user (with full admin privileges). This is not my area of expertise but it sure sounds like 'name' is in control and you may just be a limited user.

Ok that's what I've thought, but its telling me I have an admin account (which is what I dont get)

EDIT: Also when I try to download something when I need to save the file it won't allow me because I can't change the contents of the folder it's supposed to be saved in ie. download

OK, this is not my strong area of support and I am not sure of how the password protected might affect your ability to change things. With that said, there are some system files that would require you to take ownership (as suggested by David Bailey); however, just to be sure that is the case, can you give us a specific example of where you are encountering this error? Specifically, is it in a user folder, and, if so, does that user folder have a different username than yours? Did you ever create a new admin user? Any chance you did an upgrade and you are trying to access something in windows.old? Please provide additional detail about what 'name' really means. Is it really another username?

Basically I created a folder, I couldn't rename/delete it cause I didn't have permission.
I also can't save downloads because I can't change the contents of my folders, I have no other accounts/users either just this one.

You could give yourself total control in C:\ Properties.

Just in case David's latest suggestion doesn't work, here is a screenshot of the permissions for my Downloads folder. Might be worth it to compare mine with yours:

This is my last post as David and I are both concentrating in the same area but you need to check the other entries on the same view:

If they match my views, then I'm lost for any other recommendations... other than to do a complete malware scan. Good luck.

What do I change exactly, everything under allow is checked

Every check mark in yours is GRAYED OUT.
Mine is black.

This indicates you have NO permissions.

First click Advanced button.

Screenshot (1).png

Then do as in the picture below:

Screenshot (2).png

Then click on Advanced permissions & check all the boxes except the one below all the others.

Screenshot (3).png

Reboot & try doing the add take ownership reg file or something else you couldn't do before.
post back with results.
I have cramps in my fingers.:p
