Solved cannot create more than one user account

I have an HP Envy X2 running Windows 8 (not RT). When setting up the device, I created a user account for me which works fine. But I cannot create any other user accounts. When I "Add a user" the account appears to have been created and the username shows up as an option for logging in on the Start screen. But I cannot log in. I get the dreaded "The User Profile Service failed to sign in." None of the posted solutions to this problem works because there is no trace of the account in the system registry and no c:/users/<username> folder has been created. I have tried deleting and recreating accounts several times, with different user names, but nothing seems to work. I tried refreshing the tablet to its "just bought" state and started all over again, but that didn't work either. Is there some system setting I'm missing? This is not RT, it is regular Windows 8. My husband and I share the tablet so this is a deal breaker if we cannot have multiple accounts.

How long have you had the HP Envy X2?

If not long, then you might consider taking it back for an exchange since even doing a factory recovery doesn't help.

Thank you for the suggestion. I purchased the Envy X2 at Staples a week ago, so I brought it back and exchanged it. The new one works as expected. My husband and I both have separate accounts and have each started customizing to our own preferences. Thanks for saving me from wasting any more time trying to figure out the problem on the original tablet.
