I have this window pop up each time I try to add a new program.
I want to say yes but the screen has the yes button grayed out.

Recently I must have changed something and I can not figure it out.
I can not do a system restore because the computer will not allow me to change anything

Same situation the yes button is grayed out

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get my computer back.

Sounds to me like you are either not the administrator or your UAC controls are to strict....

checking if you are administrator:

To check if you are logged into Windows 8 as a user with administrative rights, please:

  • Right-click in the bottom left corner of your screen, and then click Control panel.
  • open User accounts
  • click "Manage another account"
There will be all user accounts listed on the page. Each account has assigned some status (Administrator, Standard user, etc.)

When you get the popup where the yes is greyed out, does it say anywhere on there to "type an administrator password, and then click yes"?

The other thing we can try is to boot into safe mode to look at those UAC settings if all else fails....

just start typing it, there is no text box.....

if that still won't get you, we will go into safe mode and check the settings from there

I'm facing a similar annoyance, i.e., many many actions require Administrator permission - or fail because I didn't start an app as Admin - even though I am my account's Administrator and the UAC level is at the bottom (turned off). It is tiresome, especially coming from Win 7, where MS wasn't so protective. The solution I've seen so far of getting full Admin rights comes with the downside that it sets up Win 8 all over again, as if I were a brand new user. That means for a single operation or two I have to figure out from the default start screen where to go, which if I've made major changes or am working from the desktop is not so obvious. And as a longterm solution, running as Administrator means everything I've done to set up Win 8 has to be redone. Would love to hear of an alternative approach - or find that MS is going to redesign this.

I am having the same type of problem where asks "To continue type an administrative password and click yes" there is no place to type a password and the yes is grayed out. I thought my account signin had administrative capabilities but that has disappeared. I also cannot get to the options to "Change account type" etc to try and setup as administrator.

I am also facing the same problem. There is no any place for giving the password and I can't access so many things. I can't install or uninstall any program. This problem occurred when I changed some settings in "netplwiz". I did this by typing netplwiz from start screen and by opening the application I changed some settings which I don't remember. After changing of settings I was asked to sign out to save the changed settings and I did accordingly. After that the administrator account in which I was signed in changed to local account or guest account. Now to open the netplwiz application again I face the problem of asking administrator password and no any text box to enter the administrator password. Please help me as soon as possible as I'm unable to perform so many tasks.

Have any of you just tried typing the password yet? I mean, just start typing and see if the yes option becomes clickable. There is no prompt or text field. Try that first and we will try the safe mode approach if that doesn't work.....
