Solved Windows 8 user issue - weird name

Hello,

I just purchased an Asus g75vx Laptop (preinstalled win8/64b) and it arrived yesterday. It was a replacement item from my insurance compnay as my previous laptop was taken when my house was burgled.

I followed all the procedures required by windows 8 when booting up for the first time. It asked for my email account that I assosciate with Microsoft and password, so I promptly added the same I used on my old laptop/xbox 360 etc.

Now this is where the problem is...

When I logged in for the first time, it had my username as Jennygirlie Bloom, not my actual name that I entered, and the default user folder is also jennygirlie, not my name. This is extremely irritating, and I'm not even sure what the problem is. I was able to change the name, but it still defaults all downloads etc. to users/jennygirlie.

I'm just wondering what is it? Why is it doing it? And can I get rid of it?

This is obviously a major irritation for me, as the laptop is brand new and I'm OCD when it comes to things like this.

Actually, it's still showing the jennygirlie folder in C:\users\jennygirlie.

How would I remove that folder?

Thank you.

I've pretty much done nothing to the laptop as of yet. I haven't installed anything. I tried remove everything and reinstall windows 8, but it just hangs and doesn't do anything.

My win8 experience so far, not so good.....

Sometimes, it may take a bit and seem like it's just hanging. Does it still have any HDD activity?

If you have already deleted the user account in Control Panel, then you should be able to just delete the folder.

User Account - Delete - Windows 7 Forums

If it will not delete, then check to make sure the folder and it's contents are set to be shared by nobody, then try deleting it again.

I ended up changing the account info via the web for the account linked with my email, changed the name that was somehow changed to Jennygirlie Bloom, and then turned reset WIndows 8. Reset wasn't working, but I shut down my laptop and it required updates... once they were complete, it worked.

Thanks a lot for your help, Brink. With your help I was able to clean my laptop up and have it working exactly how I wanted to.

Not the first post about weird user accounts.

One poster thought he was logging into somebody else's xbox a/c.
