I need to find out why my account randomly asks me to re-enter my password. They do seem random (i.e. not a set time interval, not after system changes, computer is not going to sleep mode, etc...) and I do not see any setting anywhere that would cause a system login to time-out. I am providing three screen shots of where it asks this when it happens and here is the text in case people need to search for this same problem in the future. Thanks for any help on this!
text alerts:
"Click here to enter your most recent password"
"You need to sign in with your most recent Microsoft password"
If so, then signing out and in with the new password for your Microsoft account may sort this.
If not, then you could also click onthe "Turn off messages about Microsoft account" link in your middle screenshot to stop these messages until you find the cause.
No I have not recently changed my password and I don't mind turning off the notices but I will still have to re-enter my password to do certain things that require it. Maybe over time there will be more people that have this same issue and it will come to light. I have done some searches and nothing so far
Well I checked and my acct is set to admin; as far as logging out, well after I re-enter my login it will eventually do the same thing...if I reboot an login, it will eventually do this again. It seems random but something must be triggering it. I guess I can check the event viewer next time it happens??? There are a lot of details in there so not 100% sure which events to look at, but I will just note the time and look and see if something sticks out - or print-screen it in here for you to view.
Ok so I actually saw when it happened (action center alert in notification area). Two events listed below are what happened at the same time. Listing in xml format but can paste other methods if it helps. I don't know how to interpret these so please help and thanks!
edit 11/15/2012: the issue happened again but the above events were not present at that time...I will try and keep track of when it happens and event logs to find out what really correlates. Just updating for others that have this issue.
You might try changing the password for your Microsoft account online, then sign out an in to see if that may toggle and reset this to stop these messages.
I don't think I am joined to a domain...how can I check?
In the meantime I will give changing the password a try. It was a brand new Microsoft account though (created it the day I upgrade to Win8).
Does anything in those event logs mean anything worth noting? I tried to do some searching for some of the data but it is still greek to me lol. I assume that "<Data Name="LogonProcessName">Advapi</Data>" is advapi32.dll???
If you don't know if you are connected to a domain or not, then most likely you are not. A domain is usually to connect to a corporate or business network.
Those logs are all greek to me as well. My guess is that it's some issue with it being an upgrade instead of clean install.
Hopefully, resetting the password may help. If not, then you may need to refresh Windows 8.
I did do this as a clean install I bought a separate hard drive to install this on in case I had issues (it was not fun swapping them back and forth though...but I am pretty much past that stage). Everything seems to be ok except this ugh.
I have a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro on two computers and I am having this issue on both computers so it is not an issue related to upgrading if anyone has a fix please let us know because this is rather annoying.
As a heads-up, changing the password did not help. I still get this issue but I have not caught it at the time it happens to look into the event viewer.

Yeah same for me, I have changed my password but still getting a request to enter my password daily, I'm not too sure whether it is to do with me being signed into the same live account on two computers yet windows 8 supports syncing between computers so I'm not too sure.
I may ring Microsoft support because there doesn't seem to be a fix on the internet.
After dealing with this for a while and from the comments at this link and noticing it does happen a lot after using CCleaner, I searched CCleaner forum and found this link. In the first link listed above someone was thinking it was the clearing of Internet Explorer data that was causing this. But it seems to actually be the cleaning of the network password under the windows explorer options in CCleaner that is the trigger. Since I have unchecked that I have not had any issues. If it turns out to happen again I will update this thread. See the highlighted setting to uncheck:
Disconnecting my account (switching to a local account), and then re-connecting to a Microsoft account from the same place seemed to fix this for me. I tried this today you have to switch all the way to local account then switch back to Microsoft account and the problem is fixed or at least for me so far.
