Solved microsoft account sign in
Just installed Windows 8 pro upgrade. I had previously set up Windows 7 so that I would not have to sign in. That carried over to windows 8 but I had to setup a Microsoft account and I am required to sign into that at startup. Any way to automate the sign in or have I missed a checkbox somewhere.

What if you don't have a Microsoft account, and, don't want one...?

Hello STIC, and welcome to Eight Forums.
You don't have to have a Microsoft account if you don't want to use one. You could just continue using a local account if you like.
The tutorial above works for both. I just had Microsoft account in my post above since that's what the OP was asking about. That's all.

Thanks for the response. I was using the netplwiz form but I did not understand which account was Microsoft. This site has some very good information and I will reviewing the tutorials but I have to say that I've been using Windows since the 3.1 version and I have a good understanding of all versions except 8. This one does not seem suitable for the desktop and I'm thinking about returning to 7.

You're welcome bicycle.
Yeah, it takes a bit to get use to Windows 8 on the desktop with the new "Windows 8 UI" (Metro UI). It you have more than one display, it does make using the desktop easier though.
Please feel free to post in the forum for anything that you would like to change or need help with. I'm sure that we may be able to help.
