I'm impressed because standard SATA drivers should be included on the Windows 8 DVD.
On all the VM's and the laptops I use SATA and the disk shows always on the list.
But yes, it depends what hardware you use.
If one day I'll see nothing on the list, I'll try not to freak out and take a look here.

64 bit i did excatly the same thing with the same drivers and a windows 7 bootable usb and i was ok so i saw also this thread Won't Install / Driver Issues? and i will tested as quick as possible
