How to Show or Hide Status Bar in File Explorer in Windows 8 and 8.1

The status bar at the bottom of File Explorer shows you how many items are in an opened folder, how many items are selected, and two icons on the right to select to display items in Details.png details or Large_icons.png large icons view.

This tutorial will show how to show or hide the status bar in File Explorer for your user account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

Note   Note
This is a global setting applied to all folders, and not just specific folders.

OPTION ONE

To Show or Hide Status Bar in File Explorer in Folder Options


1. Open Folder Options.​
2. Click/tap on the View tab, and do to step 3 or 4 below for what you would like to do. (see screenshot below)​
3. To Show Status Bar in File Explorer
NOTE: This is the default setting.​
A) Check the Show status bar box, and click/tap on OK.​

4. To Hide Status Bar in File Explorer
A) Uncheck the Show status bar box, and click/tap on OK.​

OPTION TWO

To Show or Hide Status Bar in File Explorer using a REG File



Note   Note
The .reg files below are for the registry key and value below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

ShowStatusBar DWORD

0 = off
1 = on


1. Do step 2 or 3 below for what you would like to do.​
2. To Show Status Bar in File Explorer
NOTE: This is the default setting.​
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.​

3. To Hide Status Bar in File Explorer
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.​
Turn_Off_Status_Bar_in_File_Explorer.reg

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.
5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.
6. If prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.
7. If File Explorer is open, then close and reopen it to apply.
8. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

But as we can see, explorer doesn't show file's creation / modifying date in a status bar in Windows 8.1.
How to show this additional information (desirable without using OldNewExplorer)?
