How to Change Date and Time Format in Windows 8 and 8.1

This tutorial will show you how to change the date and time format settings to customize how you like for your user account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.





OPTION ONE

To Change Date and Time Format in PC settings


NOTE: This option is only available in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.
1. Open PC settings, and click/tap on Time and language on the left side. (see screenshot below)​

2. Click/tap on Date and time on the left side of "Time and Language", then click/tap on the Change date and time formats link under Formats on the right side. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: You can see examples of your current date and time formats on the right side under Formats.​

3. Click/tap on the drop down arrow for each item to select the format you would like for each. (see screenshot below)​

4. When finished, you can close PC settings if you like.​





OPTION TWO

To Change Date and Time Format in "Region" Control Panel Item


1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), click/tap on the Region icon, and close the Control Panel.​
2. In the Formats tab, select the format regional language that you want to use for your formats if you have not already. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: It is recommended to leave this set to the default Match Windows display language setting.​

3. Do step 4, 5, or 6 below for what you would like to do.​
4. To Quickly Select Your Date and Time Formats
A) In the Formats tab, click/tap on the drop down arrow for each item under "Date and time formats" to select the format you would like for each, and go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below step 2)​
NOTE: You can see an example of your currently set date and time formats in the bottom Examples section.​
5. To Customize Your Date Format
NOTE: You can click/tap on the Reset button to restore the default settings.​
A) In the Formats tab, click/tap on the Additional settings button. (see screenshot below step 2)​
B) Click/tap on the Date tab, select or type in the date formats to how you want them displayed, and click/tap on Apply to see the changes. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: You can see an example of your currently set date formats in the top Example section.​
C) When finished, go to step 7 below.​

Date Letters
d = day​
M = month​
y = year​

d or dd = displays as day number​
ddd = displays as abreviated day name​
dddd = displays as full day name​
_________________________________​
M or MM = displays as month number​
MMM = displays as abreviated month name​
MMMM = displays as full month name​
_________________________________​
y or yy = displays up to the last 2 digits of the year​
yyy or yyyy = displays as full year​
Example Date Formats
NOTE: You can use a space and characters like - / , . between the date letters.​
d-M-y displays as 7-‎8-‎11
dd-MM-yy displays as ‎07-‎08-‎11
dd/MM/yy displays as ‎07/08/11
ddd-MMM-yyy displays as Sun-‎Aug-‎2011
ddd, MMM. yyy displays as Sun, ‎Aug. 2011
dddd-MMMM-yyyy displays as ‎Sunday-‎August-‎2011
dddd dd, MMMM yyyy displays as Sunday ‎07, ‎August ‎2011


6. To Customize Your Time Format
NOTE: You can click/tap on the Reset button to restore the default settings.​
A) In the Formats tab, click/tap on the Additional settings button. (see screenshot below step 2)​
B) Click/tap on the Time tab, select or type in the time formats to how you want them displayed, and click/tap on Apply to see the changes. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: You can see an example of your currently set date formats in the top Example section.​
C) When finished, go to step 7 below.​

7. When finished, click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below step 2)​
