How to View System Information about your PC in Windows 8 and 8.1

This tutorial will help show you how to view details about the system information of your Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8.1 RT PC.





OPTION ONE

View "About Windows" in Windows 8 and 8.1


NOTE: This option will only provide you basic information about your computer, such as Windows build and version, and registered owner and organization.
1. Do step 2 or 3 below for how you would like to open About Windows.​
2. From your Start screen, type winver to open Search, press Enter, and go to step 4 below.​
3. Press the :winkey: + R keys to open the Run dialog, type winver, press Enter, and go to step 4 below.​
4. You will now see About Windows. (see screenshot below)​

OPTION TWO

View "PC info" in PC settings in Windows 8.1


NOTE: This option will only provide you basic information about your computer, such as Windows edition, system details, Computer name, and Windows activation status.
1. Open PC settings, and click/tap on PC and devices on the left side. (see screenshot below)​

2. Click/tap on PC info on the left side of PC and devices. (see screenshot below)​

3. When finished, you can close PC settings if you like.​






OPTION THREE

View "System" in Windows 8 and 8.1


NOTE: This option will only provide you basic information about your computer, such as Windows edition, system details, Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, and Windows activation status.
1. Do step 2, 3, or 4 below for how you would like to open the System window.​
2. Press the :winkey: + Pause/Break keys, and go to step 5 below.​
3. Open the Control Panel (icons view), click/tap on the System icon, and go to step 5 below.​
4. Open the Power User Tasks Menu, click/tap on System, and go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below)​

OPTION FOUR

View "System Information" in Windows 8 and 8.1



Note   Note
System Information (also known as msinfo32.exe) shows details about your computer's hardware configuration, computer components, and software, including drivers.

System Information lists categories in the left pane and details about each category in the right pane. The categories include:
  • System Summary - Displays general information about your computer and the operating system, such as the computer name and manufacturer, the type of basic input/output system (BIOS) your computer uses, and the amount of memory that's installed.
  • Hardware Resources - Displays advanced details about your computer's hardware, and is intended for IT professionals.
  • Components - Displays information about disk drives, sound devices, modems, and other components installed on your computer.
  • Software Environment - Displays information about drivers, network connections, and other program-related details.
To find a specific detail in System Information, type the information you're looking for in the Find what box at the bottom of the window. For example, to find your computer's Internet protocol (IP) address, type IP address in the Find what box, and then click Find.

You can save System Information by clicking File, clicking Save, typing a name for the file, and then clicking Save again. Windows saves this information in the NFO file format. If you have trouble opening this file, you can save System Information in the TXT file format by clicking File, clicking Export, typing a name for the file, and then clicking Save.

2. From your Start screen, type msinfo32 to open Search, press Enter, and go to step 4 below.​
3. Press the :winkey: + R keys to open the Run dialog, type msinfo32, press Enter, and go to step 4 below.​
4. You will now see System Information. (see screenshot below)​

OPTION FIVE

To Display Detailed License Information about Windows


1. Open a command prompt, type slmgr /dlv, and press Enter.​

OPTION SIX

View System Information in Command Prompt


1. Open a command prompt, type systeminfo, and press Enter.​
