Unfortunately at that resolution the min and max number of rows you can have are the same, and you would not be able to increase it.
Thanks a lot. Another question: is there a metod to force increase resolution and then increase the rows?

I have a 1600x900 display with 4 rows only and I can't change it to 5. Adding a line in te registry doesn't do anything and when going to Tiles in settings, there is nohing to change the number of rows.
    Any help is welcome

Hello Diquercia, and welcome to Eight Forums.

At 1600x900 you should have 5 rows of tiles by default. Did you install anything that affects the Start screen?

I'm not sure why you only have 4 instead of 5 rows. Every system I tested this on at 1600x900 had 5 rows. Possible something that carried over from Windows 7??

What brand and model # is your display/monitor or laptop, the brand and model # of your graphics card/chip, and how do you have them connected (ex: DVI, HDMI, VGA, etc....) ? We can see if others with the same have the same issue.

Hi all, my name is Bruno and I ask for your help.

I have a PC and a laptop, running Windows 8 in both. In the laptop (image #1) I have five rows available and on the desktop (image #2) and have more available.

The resolution is the same (1920x1080). I try to change the row number with the registry method, but with no luck. The message at the right part just do not show up.
The only difference between them is that on the laptop, the default zoom is 125% and the PC is 100% (both at 100% right now).

Is there anything that I could do to make both at the same size (I wish I can continue with the PC default).

    Thanks.

Hello Bruno, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I've noticed that some laptops have not always had the same amount of rows as desktop with the exact same screen resolution settings. I'm afraid that I don't know if there's anything that can be done though.

A fix for the "not enough rows for the resolution because of screen size" problem.
    I have a Samsung 9 13.3" with 1600x900 screen - it would only let me have FOUR rows - I want 5
I have a Surface RT It defaults to THREE rows.

Been searching for a couple of the weeks - found this on XDA forums (great site/ppl)

Just need to change/add one thing to reg

Well for any one that wants to know I found a way.
It is to do with scaling

see below for the reg tweak:

DPI - Change for Modern UI in Windows 8

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling]
    "MonitorSize"="15"

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
worked for me - also works on RT device - change size to 12.1!

Metro tiles suddenly huge, only 2 rows, should be smaller and 5 rows
Weird and annoying. Suddenly after a reboot my 5 row layout of Metro screen was changed. Tiles are now huge, Metro only showing two rows: 6668 This on laptop's 1600 * 900 display. If I set my external 1920 * 1080 display as primary, it shows the same huge ties in 3 rows: 6669
