Hmm for some strange reason my IE box on the start screen is different...its a green box with a small IE icon in the lower corner. Obviously I have checked some option somewhere but I cant remember what I exactly done, I was way to exited when I first logged on to Windows 8 (like a child at Christmas) so I must have done something and changed it...now if I could only remember what that was!

Any idea how to get the normal blue box back?

    Burtie,

It sounds like you may have pinned that IE to the Start screen. Scroll the "Start" screen to the left and right to see if you see the blue IE app icon as in the example. If not, then you may have unpinned the blue IE on. I'll have to look further into how to restore the default ones if you did.

Yup your right...looks like i have unpinned it! I tried doing a search of programs on the metro start screen and there is no blue icon available

Maybe the option to add it back has not been implemented yet...trust me! lol

    Burtie,

For giggles, I unpinned the Metro IE10 app from the Start screen, and I was able to pin it back from the Apps screen as in the tutorial below. If there under I, you should hopefully be able to as well.

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Professional and while everything was working, once I said to use Adobe Reader X for pdf files, trying to use IE10 View in Desktop always returns: This page can't be displayed

Firefox works fine, chrome, etc, but not IE10 in Desktop View. IE10 in metro view (works) since I'm able to send this in. :-) I uninstalled Adobe Reader X and changed the default for PDF files to use Windows 8 Reader, restarted multiple times, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks!!!

Ah, if only you could do that with ALL metro apps! And then have them open that way (or whatever way you last left them)!!!

(Yes I know all that is happening here is that IEMetro is launching IEDesktop and DDEing it a URL and what I am wishing for is completely different, but conceptually it should work that way)

Hello smmmadden, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Windows 8 has a Reader Store app included with it that works much better. Setting Reader to be your default program with all of it's associations may work better for this for you.

    Hope this helps,

I found the issue, it turn out that another program was interfering with the Desktop View of IE10. I found that somehow a program called Sendori v2.0.5 was installed about the time it stopped working. Once I uninstalled it the desktop view started working again. I don't know how it was installed, why it was installed as I was never prompted to install this, but it did cause issues in case anyone else runs into this.

That's great news Madden. Thank you for posting back with your results.

You might also do a full scan of your system with MalwareBytes Free just to help make sure your system is clean.

Modern Vs. Desktop Internet Explorer
