    That's great news.

Yes, you would just boot into windows 7 and restore the backup from step 1, then delete the vhd file to undo this completely.

You could use the same method in the tutorial below to add the VHD to Windows Boot Manager to be able to boot from the VHD again.

As long as you follow the steps exactly it's safe. It's basically just adding the VHD to the boot menu.

I just got my new computer with Windows 8 and want to install 7 on vhd next to 8. I guess I should make same steps like in this tutorial but don't know one thing. Should I? What about replace of 8's boot menu? Installation of 7 will add entries to 8's boot menu or replace it completly?

    Hi there,
All sounds safe to me but I'm not sure about the boot menu replacement: it happened in all previous dual-boots where the older OS was installed last. I didn't tested that here but I'm sure someone else will answer soon.

But as long as Win8 is on the list all is good. Just keep in mind that if hybrid boot is (normally) enabled in Win8, dual booting will be more annoying than before because the disk will be checked for errors each time and/or you can get black screens.

    Hello Gregory,

Dual booting will just add the OS to the boot list with Windows 8 still listed. If for whatever reason the default OS to run at startup gets changed, you can change it to what you want using the tutorial below.

Startup Options - Choose a Default OS to Run at Startup in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Basically, Windows 7 would be set as the default OS to run at startup since it was the last OS installed.

Since Windows 7 is the default OS, you would have the old text "Windows Boot Manager" instead of the new Windows 8 UI.

When you change Windows 8 to be the default again, it will all change back to the Windows 8 UI.
