    Hello John,

As with Windows 7 and Vista, you have 30 seconds by default to choose a OS to boot to before the default OS is started by default. By default, the last OS installed is the default OS.

Looking at the two example screenshots at the top of the tutorial, you can click on the Choose defaults or choose other options to be able to Choose the default operating system (ex: Windows 7 or Windows 8).

You can change the 30s to what ever time you want also.

You're most welcome John. I'm glad that we could help.

If you like, you could post about XP in the Chillout Room at Seven Forums.

The another method is set up dual boot not within windows and it is at boot. You must tell your computer to boot from the usb or dvd, then follow your posted tutorial - clean install-windows 8.

But remember that you have to shrink your partition and do not choose the partition that windows 7, vista or XP install. Otherwise, Windows 8 will replaced and your previous OS and your files in C:/ will be lost and deleted.

    Hello Engtianxi,

Yep, that would be using step 5 in the tutorial to install Windows 8 at boot.

Replace Vista with 8 on dual boot PC
I have a Vista and Win 7 dual boot desktop. I want to replace Vista with 8. Is it just a case of booting into Vista and running the 8 install DVD as I did when I upgraded to 8 on my Win 7 laptop? What chance is there of the process screwing up booting into 7 Do you recommend any precautions?
