Now I have read through this tutorial and I am getting the impression it is adding 8 to an existing 7 install.
So given what I am getting and that it has 8 installed I am wondering if I should be reading another tutorial. I want to the dual boot because I prefer the 7 and would also like 7 on board to use as a primary boot.
I know this sounds a bit wafty but there was no tutorial I coud find in the 7's forum tutorials.

    Hey John,

Since you already have Windows 8.1 installed, it would be easier to install Windows 7 to another hard drive.

If that's not an option, then you would need to create a new partition on the 1TB drive for Windows 7.

Be sure to turn off Fast Startup in Windows 8.1.

Afterwards, you could just install Windows 7 on the new partition or 2nd hard drive to dual boot with it.

Ok Shawn I was thinking of installing a large SSD bit if I can get away with a smaller one for the 7 install it is a better option. The spinner the machine comes with is a 5400rpm one which I thought was a retrograde move in such a well spec'd computer although I did see boot times of around 15 secs on YouTube.

If I do go with the same drive as installed I will do as you say with the Fast Start up.

You'll want to turn off Fast Startup no matter which option you use. Fast Startup could prevent you from being able to select an OS at boot, or cause check disk to want to run when trying to install Windows 7.

Hi guys, as you can see I'm new here. This tutorial is just awesome ! However, I'm confused about the point below

The think is that there is 2 internal hard drive in my laptop. I want to have both OS on the same hard drive (the 1st one). Will I need to open my laptop to disconnect the 2nd hard drive or I can just let go ?

    Regards.

Hello MasTeRM1nd, and welcome to Eight Forums.

While it's recommended, you don't need to disconnect the 2nd drive.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2

Just joined up a few mins ago and would like some HELP please.

I presently run Win Vista 32-bit on a 500gig drive with another backup 500gig extra drive for installing games, storing photos etc. I presently have 3 gig ram and just bought 2 sticks of 4gig ram that I'd like to install. But I see that I require a 64 bit OS to take advantage of anything past 3.5gigs. I also bought a new video card and a 256 SDD HD.

I cannot lose my Vista 32-bit system as most of my files for business and game info etc are stored on these two drives within a 32 bit system. So what I'd like is help on installing Win 8 64-bit OS on the new SSD drive and have a dual boot system. Can I run a 32 bit Vista on the present 2 drives and have a 64-bit system on the new drive? If so, I'll be taking this on this weekend (Oct 25th)

What are the steps that I need to do for this set up / install please? Also, my mobo has 6 slots for ram with my present 1gig sticks taking up 3 slots. Should I get rid of those 3 sticks and just use the new 4 gig sticks? (or have a total of 11gig for ram)

My MOBO can run 64-bit... as well as the present 32-bit.

Hello DJ, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, you will be able to keep 32-bit Vista and install 64-bit Windows 8 to dual boot them.

You could follow the same steps in the tutorial on the first page of this thread to install Windows 8.
