Would I be correct to assume that either of the drives will work to install Windows 8 as dual boot after creating a new partition???

For your situation, I agree that installing Windows 8 on the 2TH HDD would be best. If you do not have anything you want to keep on the 2TB HDD, then you could just delete it until it shows as unallocated space and select to install Windows 8 on it during installation. If you do have something you want to keep on the 2TB, then you could also create another partition now to use to select and install Windows 8 during installation.

By this I mean, due to another OS being installed the MBR file will get automatically update correct?

By default, whichever Windows you select to run at boot, it will always show it's drive as [C:], and the other OS drive/partition with a different letter.

By default, the last OS installed will show first in the list of OSs to select to run at startup in the Windows Boot Manager screen. By default, the last OS installed is also the default OS to automatically run at startup if you do not select a listed OS within 30 seconds.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
    Thanks for the reply Shawn.

In regards to [Point 3], are you saying I do not have to alert the boot sequence in my BIOS? Currently it is set to [in order] 1. DVD Drive, 2. SSD Drive [Windows 7] - 3. Seagate 2TB Drive [which only has data].

If I was to install Windows 8 on the [D:] Drive - Seagate 2TB, and left the Boot sequence in the BIOS as is, what would happen on boot up. What Selection menu would load, the uglier Windows 7 looking screen, or the New Blue Windows 8 screen?

    Cheers

You shouldn't have to change your BIOS boot priority settings since installing Windows 8 would update the Windows 7 boot manager if the Windows 7 drive is left connected.

Normally, you should see the new Window 8 boot GUI since it was the last OS installed.

Few questions regarding setting up dualboot on my system

First, great forum you have here.

    My situation.

I have 2 hd in my computer.
Disk 1 is my first hardddisk with windows 7 installed, here i have already 4 primary partitions on.
Recently i put another harddisk wit data on, in my system( disk 0) where i want to install windows 8 on.
    See my diskmgmt picture below.

What is the best way to install windows 8 for a dualboot ?
    1. Make on disk 0 a new primary partition or unallocated space ( What's the difference)
    2. Or must my second HDD be empty to make this work.
    3. The HDD on disk 0 is ide, the hdd on disk 1 is sata does this matter.
    4. Must my first HDD disk 1 with windows 7 be disconnected when installing windows 8
    5. Any other tips.

Hope i made it understandable, as you can notice English is not my first lanquage.

Hello lifetec, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Personally, I would ditch the IDE HDD, and get a SATA HDD to install on for better performance, but the IDE will still work.

In your situation, here's what I would do:

    1) Shrink F: (on disk 0) to create a new partition on it like in step 3.

    2) Disconnect only the I: and H: hard drives for now.

    3) While in Windows 7, start the Windows 8 installation using step 6.

    4) Select the new partition on F: to install Windows 8 on, and continue until finished.

    5) When Windows 8 is finished installing and setup, you could connect the I: and H: hard drives back.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Good work Shawn - very easy to follow. Only takes 15 minutes to get a nice W7/W8 dual-boot. Nicely done.
