Golden, your method worked for me as well. Not sure that I am going to keep it yet- when I choose the disk with 7 the computer again goes thru post, and that is different. Like the retro op system menu too.
Did you find it easy to set it up that way?

I've got the problem HDD to let the system boot when it's installed.

Backed up all of the partitions,
    Wipe Disk,
    Create partitions,
    Install HDD
The system will boot now with no issues.

Must be something in the MFT.
Does this have something to do with GPT disk setup?
If it reads any MBR/MFT with reference to an OS install does it try to add it to the boot files?
There is a BIOS setting that enables GPT, MBR, or both, to boot from, I set it to GPT when I first had the issue and it didn't help.

You could be right there Dave, any little reference.

Don't like that, would like to have the option of having a OS with one time boot option.
I'll test this again with an SSD I want to secure erase.

I have Windows 8 installed and I would like to do the opposite of what you describe in section 3. I would like to create a Windows 7 partition on my C: drive and install Windows 7 from my distribution media. I can boot the Windows 7 .iso file and install it on the newly created partition. How do I create this partition from Windows 8? Also, when running Windows 7, am I able to read and write to/from the Windows 8 partition? How much space do I need to allocate for Windows 7? Thank you in advance.

    64-bit Windows 10

Hello Richie, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Please post back with a screenshot showing the full layout in Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc).

Just a few questions as well.

Did Windows 8 come preinstalled on the computer, or did you install it yourself?

Is the Windows 8 installed using UEFI or BIOS?

Is this a 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 7 you were wanting to dual boot with?

I had a severely infected Windows 7 system so I started with a new clean install of Windows 7 followed by an upgrade to Windows 8. I believe the system uses a BIOS. It is a 32 bit computer. Attached is a screenshot of the disk management screen.

Ok good. We don't have to worry about UEFI then.

I don't see your screenshot though.

I don't understand why you didn't get the attachment. I clicked on Reply to Thread > Go Advanced > Manage Attachments. I browsed for the disk management screenshot then clicked Upload. Here it is again. There is one question I edited in my original reply you may not have seen. How much disk space should I allocate for Windows 7?
Windows Media Center does not get all the TV channels with my computer running Windows 8 due to an incompatibility. I would like the output of Media Center from Windows 7 to write to the 'Recorded TV' folder on the Windows 8 partition. Will this be a problem?

It looks like you uploaded the image, but just didn't attach it in your post.

It depends on how much you plan on installing along with Windows 7, but I would say 60 GB is a good amount to use.

I'm afraid that I don't know about Media Center though.
