    Vista and Win7

Recently I have seen a whole army of gremlins with the stuff I was working on. They must be low on their year end quota and want to make up for it now.

Yes, perhaps there is some quirk in my system somewhere. One day I'll try to replicate Brink's method and see if I can work out where I went wrong. I'm not too bothered at the moment as my workaround got me the result, be it a little unorthodox, but its quite simple really - not at all complicated.

I think you are right. If it works, leave it alone.

    Brink,

I've come to the conclusion that my workaround for the dual boot is not a feasible long-term solution.

Although its worked fine, I've had some oddities popup occasionally that finally resulted in it giving me the sad face and "not able to boot message". I've not been able to boot into Windows 8 now for quite a few days. Some of the symptoms of the oddities were interesting : on occasion I would get the light blue Windows 8 dual boot screen as shown in the 1st image on your tutorial, and other times I would jest get the classic black background with text dual boot message. This is probably because of the way I edited the booloader.

I've decided I will try again to setup a dual boot as per your tutorial, so for now I've wiped the disk that had the Windows 8 installation and reverted my bootloader back to just the default Windows 7.

I'll post back here when I eventually get around to it.

    regards,
    Golden

Hi Shawn, I created a 25GB partition by shrinking C Drive. However, when I m trying to install Windows 8, its not showing up the 25GB Unallocated Space. I tried to create a new partition off the Unallocated Space and now it became a logical drive. When I tried to install Windows 8 on this Logical Drive, it returned an error stating it must be installed on a hard drive. I guess I cant install Windows 8 on a logical drive. But I have only 3 partitions on my HDD, 1st is the 100 MB partition used by Windows 7, second is the C drive (for Win 7) and 3rd is the D drive (for data). Why cant I create another partition without it being termed as a "Logical Drive"?

    Hello Dinesh,

You only created a unallocated space. Since you already have 3 primary partitions, you will just need to make the unallocated space to be a logical partition. You could use the tutorial below to help do so if you like. Afterwards, it should show up to be able to select for Windows 8.

I have a Vista and Win 7 dual boot desktop. I want to replace Vista with 8. Is it just a case of booting into Vista and running the 8 install DVD as I did when I upgraded to 8 on my Win 7 laptop? What chance is there of the process screwing up booting into 7 Do you recommend any precautions?
