But mike's disk is not clean.

To install in uEFI mode, the disk must GPT.

Yep, an unallocated disk is clean.

I think we are thinking the same thing, but coming at it from two different directions.

To install in uEFI mode, the disk must GPT is true, but I was coming from the very start when you boot from the UEFI USB, select the unallocated disk, select "New" to let Windows convert the disk to GPT, then select to install Windows on the "Primary" partition as in STEP THREE below.

I find, that if you start with a clean, unformat MBR disk, the installer will not convert to GPT.

Interesting. I'll have to do some more testing late tonight since that was the way it worked for me with an unallocated disk.

That is why I always post.

Clean the HD Drive, using Step one in this tutorial:

    Than type> convent gpt
& than Reboot PC to install.

    As the above always works.

    First off, thanks.
Secondly, my cat wrote some of those questions...
I *may* have been successful on more than one occasion in my trials.
I now have a new question to be asked when helping people...
"Do you have two monitors and are both of them on?

This last install went as many of the others did and ended up with a black screen and little disk activity, but this time I bumped the mouse and saw a cursor.
I turned on the other monitor which Windows had decided was the primary one and here I am.

As a side note and to add to my embarrassment.
I was using a small netbook to find answers and that screen is about the same size as my cheap tablet.
I found myself tapping the screen several times.

    Ok Ray,

Here are my test results. I've updated the tutorial below to reflect them.

Would you double check them for me to see if you get the same, or if you think any additional info needs to be added.

    Hey mike,

Yeah, it's best to have all displays turned on when installing in case it's only displaying the installation setup on one of the displays that is turned off.

    Looks OK.

As I said, I have not seen the installer convert MBR to GPT, I will keep trying.

It only converts it if booted from the created UEFI Windows 8 installation USB.

I can do it with a new HD Drive or clean all, but not a used MBR drive with the installer. (with a DVD)
