    Yes, it should.

An upgrade will not help with a virus. The virus will still be there. If you have a virus, then a clean install would usually get rid of it since it formats the hard drive.

No. You cannot upgrade to the same or lower edition. You could do a refresh that is close to doing an in-place upgrade with the same edition though.

    Refresh Windows 8

    or

Refresh Windows 8 - Create and Use Custom Recovery Image

    thanks.
1-the answer 1 "it should" means the programs will work and do not need install?
2- after upgrading , the past windows(7) will remove?

Q1) Yes, if you select the Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps option at step 8 in the tutorial on the first page. If there are any incompatible programs that will not be carried over into Windows 8, then you will let known at step 9.

Q2) Yes. When the upgrade to Windows 8 is successfully completed, Windows 7 will no longer be installed. Instead, you will have a copy of it in the Windows.old folder as per step 25 that you could delete if you like.

Since when you purchased the Windows 8 upgrade, you agreed to not to use the product key for that Windows 7 anymore as per the EULA to qualify for the lower priced Windows 8 upgrade.

If you have another Windows 7 product key, then you could use it to dual boot Windows 7 and 8 if you like, but otherwise you would be violating the EULA.

I noticed this today which is useful for those people who were slow and missed the deadline for their Windows 8 previews which are now rebooting every 2 hours. This way, instead of downloading the OS which could feasibly take longer than that 2 hour window, it provides an installer.

Upgrade to Windows 8 with only a product key - Microsoft Windows

Shawn: just realised this should perhaps be in a separate thread, feel free to split if off if you agree.

    Hello Peter,

Yeah, it's the same as doing step 4 here to either download/install with a key.
