That charms bar is a real pain. I downloaded the disable program and placed the reg file on my desktop. Clicked it and run yes yes ok but the bar still appears just every time I go to the right of my screen to scroll or something, it is irritating. In fact I don't even have to go to a corner. I just go to the right side of the screen and the black bar comes up occasionally since day one and this machine is 2 weeks old.
I must be doing something wrong. I repeated this a couple of times now and rebooted but still no luck. I want to make this black bar go away unless I use the shortcut keys.
I use classic shell to bring my start button back in case that has anything to do with it
Thanks for any advice.

If you go to the corners and swipe up or down, then Charms will still open. When you disable the Charms hint, it only prevents Charms from opening when you go to the corners and not swipe. That sounds like what may be happening here.

No it is happening randomly when I am no where near the corners...If I put my cursor over on the right edge half way in between top and bottom the dang black bar comes out and is really getting on my nerves. Doesn't do it all the time just when it feels like it. Strange. Did it from day one.
Thanks.

I will keep an eye on it..I can't make it do it when I want it to but the last time it did it I had my finger on the touchpad and the cursor was in the middle of the right edge..The time before that I was on the upper part of the scroll bar 2 inches down from the top of the screen. It is strange. I am definitely no where near the corners when this occurs and it is happening randomly. I will live with it and I appreciate your time. Thanks.

EDIT I have been trying to get it to do it and now it won't when I want it to..... just when it feels like it...I will stay conscious of the cursor position and like I said I can live with it if need be. Maybe you were right and I bumped the top or bottom but I don't see how. The machine runs pretty good otherwise. No issues.
Thanks Shawn.

Was thinking in the last little while that it might be something to do with the pointer as if it has some noise in it. I slowed it down a little from default and will see how it goes.

Oddly when I saw the last response by Brink my cursor was about in the middle, I moved it over to the right and when I went to scroll this page up the black bar popped out again then went back in. I have no clue. That's the report. I hate computers again LOL

It sounds like the touchpad is still triggering it when you scroll.

Do you have the latest touchpad drivers installed from HP's site for your laptop's model?

Yes I have the latest HP touchpad driver. I moved the cursor slowly last time watching it all the way and never was closer than about 2 inches from the top corner.

It is hard to say what the deal is with the charms...I will keep my eye on it.

It is a nice laptop and fast isn't the word for it with the 840 Pro ssd and that 2740qm i7...500 read and writes on the benchmark tests..I was astounded...BUT it doesn't like the restart function..you know like if it applies an update and needs to be restarted....it screws up. For one thing error check won't work if it is scheduled (I had drive error once) unless I shut down manually and start it up, plus the wi-fi won't connect automatically every time on a restart so something it up with it. It might be to do with that new world standard that they use U something that is similar to BIOS, I think you guys know what I am talking about...causes this thing to boot in about 5 seconds with the SSD.....Something is just not right. I avoid doing re starts and it seems fine.

Turned fast start off and it still comes up on the desktop in a few seconds after a manual start. I didn't notice any difference. It also failed to connect the wifi on a couple of re-starts but if it sits for a couple of minutes it will eventually connect itself. Same old thing. Re-starts are not affected by the check box I notice.
Semi-froze on the app screen on the last boot up before I unchecked the fast start box. It normally comes up to desktop. I had to ctl/alt/del to get out of it.

Might have to go back to Win 7. It ran pretty good for 2 years with an SSD.
Thanks
