Library - Create New Library in Windows 8

How to Create a New Library in Windows 8

information   Information
Libraries are collections where you can get to all your documents, music, pictures, and other files in one single place. In some ways, a library works like a folder: you can use it to browse and sort files. But unlike a folder, a library gathers files that are stored in several locations. This is a subtle, but important, difference. Libraries don't actually store your items. They pull from included folders that contain your items, and let you access and arrange the items in different ways. For example, if you have music files in folders on your PC, a shared folder on your network or homegroup, and/or on an external drive, you can include these folders in your Music library so that you can access all of your music files from your Music library.

Windows 8 has four default libraries: Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. You can also create new libraries.

This tutorial will show you how to create a new library for your user account in Windows 8.

Note   Note
Your libraries are in the hidden folder below.

C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries

6. If you like, you could optimize this library for the folder template you want it to have.
7. If you like, you could add folders and drives to be included in this library.
8. If you like, you could set a "default save location" and "public save location" for this library.
9. If you like, you could change the icon for this library.

OPTION TWO

To Create a New Library using "Include in Library" Context Menu

NOTE: This option will let you create a new library by selecting to include a folder or drive into a new library.
1. Open File Explorer, and do step 2, 3, or 4 below for what you would like to do.
2. In the Computer window, right click or press and hold on a drive, click/tap on Include in library and Create new library, then go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: The C (Windows 8) drive itself cannot be included.

3. Navigate to a folder (ex: Favorites) you want to include as a new library, right click or press and hold on the folder (ex: Favorites), click/tap on Include in library and Create new library, then go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: You can include folders in a library from many different locations, such as your C drive, an external drive, or a network (ex: homegroup).

4. Navigate to and select a folder (ex: Favorites) you want to include as a new library, click/tap on the Home tab, click/tap on Easy access in the ribbon, click/tap on Include in library and Create new library, then go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: You can include folders in a library from many different locations, such as your C drive, an external drive, or a network (ex: homegroup).

5. You will notice that a new library has been created with the same name as the folder (ex: Favorites) or drive you included as a new library. You can rename this new library if you like. (see screenshot below)

6. If you like, you could optimize this library for the folder template you want it to have. By default, it will be the same as the folder or drive you included.
7. If you like, you could add more folders and drives to be included in this library.
8. If you like, you could set a "default save location" and "public save location" for this library.
9. If you like, you could change the icon for this library.

That's it,
Shawn
