Hi, I'm using windows 8 CP with a Packard bell Viseo 200T touch monitor; it's working fine except for the hot corners: I can't activate them on touchscreen, I must use a standard mouse. I also tried calibration with no result. is there something wrong or it's a limit of viseo touch monitor? months ago, using windows 8 Developer Preview on HP touchsmart PC I had no problem (but the only menu present on Developer Preview was on the left of the screen; I could activate it with finger without problem).
thanks!
:)

i am facing the same problem, on a touch screen monitor sdystem. the only solution mioght be to make the driver, fix the position of the corners (etc, when u press near the corners, it auto gets it to the corners). But, u still have to press, and since multi touch is not anabled, it gets it as mouse click.....

Only real by-pass would be if we could make something like shortcuts, on desktop, and when u press, it brings up the charms, or the start.... start seems prety easy (an exe that sends the hot key {win} etc) but for charms i have no idea... and still no idea how to make any of those...
any suggestions??

It seems to me, that it is a general design problem of Windows 8. I have adressed it for DP a few weeks ago [1] (still in German).

The problem is: Microsoft decided to use a border of 1 pixel to recognize gestures like swipe from right to left to view charm bar (and also to recognize hot corner spots). But most touch screens on "All-in-One"-PCs comes with a plastic frame, covering the edges of the touch screen. So your finger simply doesn't reach the 1st pixel row - and your gestures won't be recognized.

In DP I have had a little success to reduce screen resolution. But in CP it won't work any more.

I have tested Win 8 CP on a Dell Inspiron One 2330 with this issue - and I tested a WeTab /ExoPC slate in contradiction (this tablet pc doesn't has this issues).

Hot corners (in the sense of tapping the corner of the screen) don't work for me in touch either W8CP.

I assumed this was done on purpose as the corners information is all accessed by swiping:

The way to open the charms bar in touch is to swipe from the right edge of the screen inward
The way to open the apps selection pane and the start button is to swipe from the left side of the screen and then slide the app thumbnail back to the left until all opened apps show
Swiping from left edge will also switch apps, close apps, or place in snap depending on where you drag the thumbnail to.
Swiping from left edge only works if you have other apps open.

If you have no other apps open, access start by swiping open charms and tapping start.

Agree (missed that issue in my previous post) - because I'm thinking of the Dell Inspiron One as a touch- and mouse based system.

Well, that's the point. I took care of open apps during test. But swiping definitely wont't work, if the outer pixel row is covered by the edge of a plastic frame hosting the touch screen (as it will be on some All-in-one devices). I've read similar observations here in German MS Answers forum from guys using a slate hosed in a leather case - so the leather boarder covers parts of the touch screen border.

Gotcha! I just calibrate my screen so it reads swipes properly. I never have problems with right and left swipes, but it has taken me two or three calibrations to get the top down swipe to work. On the bright side, you should only have to do it once.

I suppose it could be problematic that the touch screen calibrator is buried in the control panel. If metro apps weren't sandboxed I would want a calibrator app for metro.

I have recalibrated my touchscreen on the Dell several time - no chance to use swiping or similar.

I don't feel the native touch screen calibrator in windows 8 is very good. In order to get it to read my swipes, I have to touch about 5mm away from where the crosshairs are. For all 4 calibration points (or 16 if you're doing a fresh calibration), I have to touch above the cross hairs to get the screen to read swipes (somehow this doesn't affect touch accuracy in other areas of the screen -- ie: calibrator not so good). Note: if you do a 4 point calibration you'll have to recalibrate every time you restart your machine. To avoid this, delete calibration information first, then recalibrate on the 16 crosshair calibrator.
