Do any of you have some suggestions on how to make Windows 8 desktop more usable?

I was thinking of adding a mac os x style dock, since that seems a lot easier to use on a tablet.
The icons are all pretty big and easily clickable.

Was thinking of modding the skin of windows 8 to make it look like mac os x.
It seems like mac os x desktop is more touchscreen friendly,as in everything is accessible easily.
Making the desktop bigger/up font just makes it look too big.

Anything that has worked for guys on a tablet in desktop mode to make things easier?

You'd think mac os is easier to touch until you realize it's only the Dock portion that is big and easy to touch. Beyond that, window controls are by far too small and the platform itself isn't even designed to be used with touch to begin with...

Having said that, very easy things can be done. I personally change DPI settings on the tablets I do clean installs of Windows with to 125%. Generally, that'll do the trick. Depending on how small the screen is and how high the resolution, I'll even size up the window control buttons from 9 to 10 under the Display settings. I have a registry key that contains all the window metrics settings on the Desktop that I always merge into the system. It sizes down the window control buttons so they're not so huge (for non-touch PCs) and make the text and icons just a tad larger.

Next is changing the right click context menu delays. Under Pen and Touch in the Control Panel, make the time for the context menu to appear short as well as the time needed to press and hold to show it. So when and if you need to do a right click action with touch, it's a tad quicker and faster than normal.

I use a stylus. That is more precise than my clumsy fingers.

A stylus is a lot better to use, but the Dell Venue 8 pro only supports a stylus sold via dell for $30.
I'll buy that in due time.

I can only use the rubber tipped ones and those are not as accurate.

Yeah, that was one of several reasons I returned the Venu 8 Pro even though they offered an extra $50 off if I kept it. I got an Asus Transformer instead. A really nifty machine.

I use a standard capacitive stylus on my Venue 8 Pro... I may not have the special features, but I can do anything I can do with my finger, only more accurately.
