Installing Programs from CD/DVD on Asus Tablet

I have a Asus VivioTab ME400C. I am trying to instal Microsoft Autoroute onto my tablet. I have tried over the network from my desktop using the /a option to install over a network (which Autoroute Demands). But when I try to instal Autoroute from the transferred code it demand disk 2 be inserted but fails to recognise it.

There must be a way of installing programs from a CD/DVD on Windows 8. Anyone know how.

I tried copying the CD's to SD drives but no luck. Also tried moving the install code to one directory.

The annoying thing is I did this last week but later the SD card failed.

    Regards
    John

Can you copy them as .iso images on your desktop, copy them onto a flash drive, and mount the .iso image on the VivoTab?

yeah, coke's is the ideal solution. make an ISO copy of your disc. then mount the ISO and install.

an alternative is to use a USB external DVD drive.

Hi, Thanks for the info. The Asus does not have a usb port. I thought it did but it's only for charging.

How do I mount a drive and will I be able to change to the second CD.

You need to buy a USB OTG (On-The-GO) cable. It's a USB adapter that you can connect to your tablet to give you a full size USB port. You can probably make an external DVD drive or HDD work with your tablet using the OTG cable. Google up "USB OTG cable for Asus vivo tab".

Here's how the setup will look:

Thanks, I will look into getting an OTG cable. The ISO route is a bit time consuming but I need a quick fix at the moment.

I have made two ISO files using NERO on my desktop (Win 7). Copied one to the Vivo SD card. I found the Mount option ok but do not have permissions. Checking my account which is the sole account I have full administrator control. Looking at the forum it looks like others have this problem. Help

I have managed to get Autoroute installed ok.

To get the Mount command to work I had to get the Elevated Administrator account started & log on to it. Quite a bit of security to get through!

Then I mounted the first disc, ran the install, ejected it, mounted the second disc & hit continue and all worked.

Not certain if I am still running an elevated account or not. Time will no doubt tell.

Two bits of info which was helpful if anyone else has a similar problem

the default user account control settings should be sufficient to mount ISO images. you shouldn't need an elevated account. reduced settings will only lead to problems down the line with other apps, in fact breaking a great number of them.

HI, I have switched the administrator account off now with:
    c:\windows\system32>net user administrator /active:no

This has fixed a problem with Maps which was not finding my location.
Not tried the mount yet as need the sd chip for other things.
