    Windows 8 Tablet UI


    I've been piecing together information from various sources regarding the newly demoed Windows 8 Tablet UI and I'm getting the distinct impression that it's very similar and perhaps derived from the Media Center UI. Remember that the Zune UI is purported to be the basis for Windows Phone 7 UI. But what was the basis for the Zune UI? It goes back to the Metro project which also spawned Media Center.

    It makes sense as the Media Center UI was designed from the ground up for the alternate input input method provided by a remote but could still be used with the keyboard and mouse. Adding touch should be a no brainer. That combined with the existing support for Media Center extensions which where based on HTML and script, I think we're just looking at another Media Center type UI facade -- another shell if you will.

    I hope Microsoft understands that there are users out there still running Windows 2000...

    All in all, I think it's a good concept, but visually unappealing.

    Since support for Windows 2000 ended they do not "care" about Windows 2000 customers

    Same will happen to vista SP1 July 12 2011

    Vista Business , Ultimate and enterprise editions have Extended support until End of August 2017

    That's pretty lame. Vista is still pretty new to a lot of users. What is Microsoft trying to do? Force customers to upgrade like greedybags, I mean Apple, does?

    I suppose. <.< Still.... -sigh- it's weird to think how old Vista is already, considering I used Windows 2000 up until 3.5 years ago on a machine with 256MB RAM and a Pentium III CPU, oh and a 40GB 5400RPM HDD.. yeahhh..

    When Microsoft end support for an Operating system that means they do not provide any additional Updates - The previous updates and service packs are still available. Also any new products for example IE or Windows live essentials are not supported for that OS

    You can still install it and activate

    Not really. SP1 support is ending in 2011, but they will still support SP2. Not quite sure when SP2 support ends, microsoft are a little ambiguous on that.

    From:Lifecycle Supported Service Packs
    Support ends 24 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first.
    I guess that means from the end of RTM support, which was 13/04/2010 so that means support will end in April 2012.
