Installing Windows 8 on a Brand New Samsung ATIV XE500T1C?

I am on my 3rd Samsung XE500T1C tablet in 3 weeks. The 1st wouldn't stay connected to the internet, so the vendor warranted it. The 2nd would not update a Digitizer driver so Samsung Tech Support had me to reinstall Windows 8 and that reinstall resulted in a continous reboot loop on the internal 64gb SSD, so the vendor warranted tablet 2. Now I am on my 3rd and final 500T1C tablet because the vendor stated if this one fails it is between me and Samgung. I DO NOT BELIEVE the problem is the Samsung tablet, I believe the problem is Windows 8.

My question is, BEFORE I turn-on and boot up this machine are there any tips/tricks that can be done to improve how the pre-loaded Windows 8 installs & configures itself?

The machine is equipped with an internal 64gb SSD and I've installed a 64gb MicroSD card. In the two previous machines once Windows 8 installs I have lost 32gb or more of drive space and haven't installed ANY programs or data.

I would like to keep the internal SSD deciated to the OS and use the SD card for user accounts and data.

Anyone have any SAFE & RELIABLE methods onhow to accomplish this task?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

THEOG, thanks for responding but the retailer doesn't have any in-store technical staff. It is AT&T. Need I say more?

Customizing Windows 8 & Tablet PC

Customizing.Windows 8 on a Brand New Samsung ATIV XE500T1C?

I am on my 3rd Samsung XE500T1C tablet in 3 weeks weeks and at my wits end. This tablet was purchased as a Christmas gift for my wife, but I cannot wrap it until the Windows 8 installation & disk space is resolved.

The 1st wouldn't stay connected to the internet, so the vendor warranted it.

The 2nd would not update a Digitizer driver, so Samsung Tech Support had me to reinstall Windows 8 and that reinstall resulted in a continous reboot loop on the internal 64gb SSD, and Samsung was unable to recover the OS, so the vendor warranted tablet 2.

Now I am on my 3rd and final 500T1C tablet because the vendor (AT&T) stated if this one fails it is between me and Samgung. I DO NOT BELIEVE the problem is the Samsung tablet, I believe the problem is Windows 8.

My question is, BEFORE I turn-on and boot up this machine are there any tips/tricks that can be done to improve how the pre-loaded Windows 8 installs & configures itself?

The machine is equipped with 2gb internal memory, an internal 64gb SSD, and I've installed an Extreme 64gb MicroSD card.

In the two previous machines once Windows 8 installs, it eats up 32gb or more of drive space an NO programs or data have been installed.

I would like to keep the internal SSD deciated to the OS and use the SD card for user accounts and data.

Anyone have any SAFE & RELIABLE methods on how to accomplish this task? I'm running out of time.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

the OS doesn't take up 32 GB of space. your SSD has hidden partitions that are there for recovery procedures. if you feel comfortable removing them, that's how you can recover more space.

Usually a vendor does not provide a Windows 8 disc. Rather, most vendors provide restore discs that return the computer back to its original factory state. I'm surprised that Samsung gave a Windows 8 disc and told you to reinstall Windows. Usually, a company has you run the recovery disc which automatically returns the system to the original state. This is a much simpler process than installing Windows fresh since any fresh install can potentially run into an OS installation problem.

I would suggest you return the tablet to its original state. And then see if everything is working. If it's working completely, then slowly start tweaking it to your desired configuration and carefully note if anything you install is causing the problem, including any newer drivers you download. Newer is not always better. The key thing about drivers is getting drivers that work, not just the latest drivers. I'm still using the default ATI driver that shipped with Windows 8 rather than the "latest" one since the latest one has some problems.

If you want to blow out the recovery partitions and run without that safety net, here's what I'd do. I'd first restore the Samsung to its factory state via the recovery disc. Once that is done, I'd make a system image to an external hard drive. I use Acronis True Image 2013 which has full Windows 8 compatibility. I'd also make partition images of the recovery partitions in case I wanted them back.

I'd then go to see if the firmware for the SSD was completely up to date by checking the Samsung website (or whoever was the manufacturer of the SSD).

Then I would delete all the partitions and restore from the Samsung image I made. That way, the system would be completely set up and I'd have the extra space on the SSD. Installing any operating system fresh can result in installation problems (especially drivers) if you're not exactly sure how to handle things when things go wrong. So it's better to use the factory restore disc.
