Solved Uninstall IObit Programs?

IObit System Care, Malware, Uninstaller and Defrag were installed on my father's laptop by a friend when he first got it. When I visit him and use his laptop (as is the case now) I see that he never updates these programs and wonder if he needs them. Is there a good reason to keep them? Is the security that comes with 8.1 not good enough alone? If it isn't is Malwarebytes a better addition to the built-in security?

Personally, I see a lot of problems caused by IObit software, I would never install it on my system, this should help you get rid of it,

I use the built-in windows defender and Malwarebytes together, they work well together.

For real time protection Malwarebytes is like $25? Is 8.1's built-in security not enough? I'd like to get rid of IObit because programs that are constantly telling you about updates and new products are not just a nuisance but in my experience suspect.

They are two different tools though, I would at least keep defender and the free version of Malwarebytes. Defender (Win 8.1 built-in security) works great for me, you can get a thousand different opinions about A.V. software though.

Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

I keep the "REVO Uninstaller FREE" handy and installed on all my PC's, for uninstalling all sorts of difficult to uninstall programs. That should easily take care of IOBit.

And NO, the built in security in Windows 8.1 is ONLY "Windows Defender", which is NOT an Anti-Spyware program. So at the very minimum, if you have only Windows Defender running on your PC, you should get "Super Anti-Spyware, FREE" as a backup. It will remove the Tracking Cookies and PUP's that WD will just ignore. I run SAS on my own PC, several times a week, and every time it finds and removes several hundred tracking cookies.....something I really don't want on my PC.
I installed and ran SAS on a friend's PC recently, and it found and removed 14,000 tracking cookies. And, he uses that same PC to do all his banking and bill paying. NOT GOOD!

WOW, while I was typing this, Windows Defender was running a scan and just found Seven possible threats. I let it remove all but one of them. That one was a safe hacktool, that I've had for years, on my storage drive. So with Windows Defender running in the background, you will be safer than not having it running at all.

It is MSE, just renamed.

Windows Defender that is built in to Windows 8 is the same thing as MSE. It just got renamed. So, no 8 users also use MSE.

To add to the confusion, Defender on 7, Vista & XP is just a spyware remover, not an AV.
