Hello,
I have the following problem.
I bought an external HDD (WD Elements 1TB) and used it for a while for backup purposes. I used it on several computers for saving files.
Now I discovered that a number of files are not accessible. I get a message" File access permission denied". Also, it asked me to save encription key when I used it on other pc. I never used encription, so why this message?
How can I get my files back?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Edit: 2 of my pc's have windows 8.1 and I other "had" windows 7.

Have you checked the permission of these files?
Right click a file/folder>properties>security tab>advanced, there you can check if you have the permission and if not get the permission.

Yes. I also checked "sharing" for everyone full control. No luck. Some of these files are highlighted with green color if that is helpful.

I've figiured that those green files have been encrypted using EFS, although I didn't use it. Do not know what triggered it. I have "lost" the encryption key. So did I lost my files...?
