Bitlocker recovery tool error. Not enough disk space???

Hello guys, my bitlocker drive stopped working it asked to be formatted which I did without knowing that formatting would make data recovery pretty hard. Anyway I have read several ways to attempt to recover the data and one seems to be the bitlockr recovery tool. I was able to find my recovery key in an external drive backup, but when I try to run the tool I get a message stating The output drive does not have enough disk space. Both drives (the problem one, and the new one I bought to be the output drive) are exactly the same brand, model and size. So how come I get this error?

It is a 1tb drive which windows "sees" as 931 Gb (as it normally does with any drive it read less that the "actual size")
it is asking for 953867 Mb which is what the windows disk management tool reads when I delete the volume and create a new one.
Is there a way to get the recovery tool to use this disk? or do I have to buy yet another one but bigger than 1tb??? :(

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance!!!
