Should I be worried!

Logged onto my PC as normal this morning, using it has I normal would using Chrome etc.. I then go to delete game recording I have on 60GB SSD.... Now this where things started to go strange.
I open the drive, and open a folder where the recording are only for the drive not to load "Green loading bar at top" I was thinking SSD was damaged so I try open another drive only for it to also not load, at this point only my C: drive would load.

I switch PC off and on again only this time nothing was loading correctly, even all my icons in start menu was gone. I quickly MSCONFIG and boot into safe mode! now everything was working perfectly fine! Re-boot again into normal mode and down at the bottom for split second notice a GOLD PADLOCK Icon ????? didn't have change to look at it before it disappeared.

I googled for this Gold Icon and I found this Gyazo - bfa5a2f3c0451cd2a7b2377aeb1af52c.png

Now I didn't get a chance to look over the icon to see what it would have said but this Icon was the same..

What Just Happened to my PC?? Any input is very welcome because right now am confused.

I have scanned my system with Avast and Malwarebytes all come back clean.

Try AdW Cleaner for pups and sfc/scannow for damaged files.

Last, and likely most effective, is a System Restore.

From what I am seeing online this is a valid Windows function. I would definitely check the system to make sure though.

If you go into the event viewer, look for any logs that say "Do not overwrite events" and change it to "Overwrite events as needed"

How to get to event viewer:

go to start menu Or charms bar and select control panel

Go to administrative tools

Go to computer management

Select "Event Viewer" from tree in Computer management

There is a window there for Log summary if you find one of the entries has that setup and is enabled, you can click on "properties on the right hand side and change the setting.

Thanks I already had that setting enabled by default on Windows 8.1... Nothing else has happened since this morning. Would I be safe to say this was just a Windows process that happened?
In all my years using Windows though I never had this happen before. Reason for me being abit worried what just happened.

Another alternate way to check would be to go to the actual logs and look to see what has the most logs

In computer management look in the tree for event viewer and under that select Windows logs. it will show a list in the middle with all the current logs and how many events are logged and the max file size. Look for any that have a high number of events and click on properties on the right to view how it overwrites.

Then select Administrative logs to get a list in the middle of all logs that are under that type.


You can also use this as reference and if it is a security log then do the same thing, but from the tree:

If all those settings are fine then I would look at the newest events in the event log. Maybe it can tell you if anything is going on. Maybe something is generating a lot of events...
