I just found out that my windows defender went down on 6/2/15 at 10:05pm due to long running scripts. any suggestions on how to get this thing up and running again.

is it possible for somebody to control my PC from some place else?
I was writing a letter yesterday when it started to delete itself with the curser moving backward. the only way to stop it was to turn off the DSL box on my PC desk. I have been pulled from websites I was on and back to my homepage. I had to clear all my PC so my desk top is showing, in order to get to this site and stay here. other wise, I could get here then back to my home page. and what is really weird, when I start writing something the first letter of the first word does not come up. I have to remember to go back and type it in. now I have run MacAfee scan and 3 other free online scans, and nothing.
can anybody offer any ideas? I don't care how crazy they may sound.

and as for the last thread,

I've been trying to delete it. it's in the wrong place anyway. but I cannot find a way to do it. would
someone tell me how, or just delete it for me.

The first thing I would do is run Sfc /scannow at Cmd. Prompt with Adm. Privileges to check for file corruption.
If any found run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth same way then run Sfc /scannow again.

Right clicking the start button or :winkey: + X would be the easiest method,

Go ahead and run the SFC & DISM commands and see what you get.

The other replies are valid as well. I was careless and did not look at your specs at first reading but you need to get your AV situation straight as well. Defender will not run with Norton installed whether it is activated or not so if neither is active you are very vulnerable.

Let's see what the scans show then address the AV situation.

Do you have any Restore Points or any kind of backup from prior to your problems starting?

If you are using a 3rd-party antivirus software, the Windows Defender will be turned off automatically once you complete the installation of the 3rd-party security software such as Trend Micro, McAfee or Norton.

This is done to prevent conflict and other performance issues. So what you are experiencing is pretty normal, if you have another security software installed.

the dism/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth did not work because it was unknown. error: 87 unknown. it then said refer to the help by running dism.eye/? I think this should help if I pit thr right photo in

It looks like you did not run DISM correctly. There should be spaces after the command DISM and the option switches.
Example: DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

See Bumpkin's post #12.

If still issues, try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4692-system-restore-how-do-windows-8-a.html Then do sfc/scan again.

As stated earlier, I would do a System Refresh due to all the problems. All your files are saved. You may lose some installed software and all Microsoft Updates will have to be reinstalled. But you are starting fresh. If you do a Refresh, the Restore will not be necessary.

a couple things to save before a system refresh. one is the calendar. the one that comes with the windows 8 was no way as good as the one as in windows XP so I went online an got 1. now I have dr. appointments, what meds to take and when, everything I need to do is posted on that calendar. so I need to save it. and I do have MacAfee total protection. so that would turn off the windows defender?

ok, I just went over the windows 8 for dummies chapter on refreshing the PC which I thought I had done once before. and did everything except on page 345, #5: "when ask, insert your windows 8 disk, flash drive, or whatever else you used to first install windows. with out it,
go ahead and click cancel. because you can't use the refresh option with out it."

now, although this PC came with windows 8 installed, it also came with a disk with the following message on the CD

reinstall the software already installed on the P

now, will this disk "CD" be enough refresh the PC? I hope so.

found a way to do it on the PC but it sad some files are missing and I needed to insert media or what ever I used for ins te lation as it would have the mission files. so now what do I do. if it stops me here, it will stop me using the above system
