I am running Windows 8.1. I have two messages that my spyware & anti virus are not turned on. When I click on the message I get error message 0x80073afc. I have tried to open Windows Defender and also get the same message. Nothing seems to work. Need help.

I have downloaded the Emsisoft & HitmanPro downloads but when I enter sfc /scannow in Run, a screen pops up quickly then disappears. Running the sfc /scannow is kind of scary for me. It seems to get into deep areas that I am not familiar with. Can you advise me how to Boot on 8.1. I am working through this slowly so I don't mess things up more. Thanks for your help so far.

Ran command prompt as admin

I ran the command prompt as admin and corrupt files were found and the system was unable to fix some of them. I have attached the window with the information below in attachments. I hope you can open it as a word document, Again, this is my first time in EightForums and I am not very savvy at adding the screenshots that you need. Let me know if you cannot open the error message and I will type it out as it was on the screen. Thanks for your patience in working with me.

I ran HItmanPro again and Windows Defender is now up and working. Thank you for taking the time to work through this problem with me.
