I found that eset smart security works fabulously, both av & firewall. Hard to go wrong.

    Norton Internet Security 2013 beta

I tried Norton Internet Security 2013 beta, which is supposed to be compatible with Windows 8.
However, I had major problems with its firewall and had to uninstall it.

I don't run, will not run Norton on any of my systems. It causes too many problems
Avoid AVG like the plague it is.
Eset when license is up to date is not bad, but have not looked at it in a long time

Will run MSE anytime, and it never hurts to run a Malwarebytes Scan every so often.
Even if it is not needed, no single AV-Malware detector will detect everything or catch everything 100% of the time.
So, running Malwarebytes as a manual scan, is not a bad idea at all.

First of all why would you want an outside sourced program that will never be as good as microsoft security essentials ? In windows 7 MSE scored almost as well on the av 100 as did eset and eset has won more than anyone in the entire industry windows defender and microsoft security essentials has been combined I am not saying that it is the utmost perfect but it is damn close

A/v choice is a personal thing.

BTW a/v scores vary a lot depending on which report you read.

MSE did badly in the recent pcpro tests. They concluded it was better than nothing - but other free a/v solutions are much better still.

Yes and I read that too but they did their test conviently when MS databasses were not ready AV is the next biggest industry and why would anyone want ms to have good public results ? And eset is free and has been great for so long, now they don't seem so good with bloat

Tepid, I'm with you on Norton AV. I used to love it, but they began planting programs that would interfere with other AVs, even after Norton was deleted. But as long as you keep account numbers off your computer, Defender is fine for the job.

Even their Microsoft Security Essential was not compatible on OS W8. I did not install any 3rd party AV till now that I run W8.

adamus - You can not install MSE on Win 8 cause it is already included by default. Win8 MSE is Windows Defender.
