I'm new to using vpn. I therefore have a general and a specific question.

1. When I'm using any vpn am I not just trusting the vpn? That is doesn’t a vpn just use a proxy through which everything now goes?

2. Is Spotflux vpn a good vpn to go with?

Thanks.

Yes, that is why it's important to pick a good VPN.

No it is not.

Are you looking at using a VPN for general security like at wifi hotspots?

Some very good VPN's: ivpn.net, Mullvad, bolehvpn, airvpn.

If you're just looking for some privacy then you could use the Tor Bundle. Just be sure to use it in it's default state and do not run any plugin's.

I don't know.
I never heard anything about it.

Could you supply a link to the source of that statement ?

Avast Antivirus Was Spying On You with Adware (Until This Week)

OK.
I read the article.

If I understood it correctly, they were using the free version with browser extensions enabled.
& Chrome.

I use the paid version & Opera with no extensions available from Avast.

I'll contact Avast & see what they say. :)

I hope it's not spying on me.

edit--- I contacted Avast support. Waiting for a reply.

It's pretty hopeless. Many browsers record your wanderings even without extensions. (They're free too). Privacy is so twentieth century!

But back to vpn. Are any free vpns safe?

Even with paid ones, are we fooling ourselves and trading the Googles/Microsofts of the world tracking us for a vpn operator doing it?

Boy, I'm getting to sound paranoid! Actually, I just want to have "some" privacy.......
