No way to end McAfee and begin Windows defender - screensh

I would like to run a scan with Windows defender finally when I try to start it I see:

However when I go into action center to try and stop it, I see that McAfee is going and I cannot turn it off:



When I click on defender there is no option to switch to it:



The button to run it is greeyd out.

Is there a way to run a scan with defend?

Ensure that "Windows Defender" Service is set to "Automatic" in "Services." Type in Services in your search menu in Start and check.

Also, the reason Windows Defender is not running is because you have McAfee Antivirus running. By having both Antiviruses running will cause system instability. Uninstall McAfee or only use McAfee. I personally use Windows Defender because it outperforms all the other antiviruses and it is simple, uses little resources, and speedy.

Had the same happen to me (30 day free trial), as the above says uninstall Mcafee (using Windows control panel 'programs & features') reboot then have Defender do it thing.

Uninstall McAfee using their removal tool then Windows Defender will put itself back on automatically:
